Just posted on Sheffield locksmith Google plus a simple way of checking what the problem is when your keys are not turning easily in the locks. Thought i would post it here too.

Step one – Check the key.

Open the door and put the key in the lock. Turn the key. Does it turn easily? No the problem may be the key. If it is a copy it may not have been done well. Make a new copy from the master key or original card. If you don’t have it, rekey according to original lock and any maufacturer instruction- you will need a locksmith for this.

If the lock turns easily when open the key is fine so
Step two – Check the door alignment

Close the door and turn the key . Try doing this while holding the door slight up or pushing it in and down. If you feel pushing it in some direction makes it turn easier you may have a problem with alignment this may be due to the fact the door or frame have moved over time. Heavy doors not fitted well may fall slightly over time  and frames can also sometime move slightly – you may just need an extra hinge or reinforcement.

Step 3 – Call a locksmith!
